about

"Now this is some shit that has my head banging from the first riff! It’s the new offering from Finnish Black Metal horde VÄKI called Kuolleen Maan Omaksi (Succumbed to the Dead Soil) and it has me damning all the gods! There’s a seedy, groovy rock ‘n roll underbelly that I absolutely adore, but it’s layered under that swarm of locusts feel that makes black metal so ghastly...Right here and now, hit play on our exclusive track stream and let VÄKI decapitate you with their razor-sharp riffage!"
- CVLT NATION
cvltnation.com/vaki-kuihtuvan-maan-puoliso/

“That feeling of menace and dread within the song builds from the very beginning, constructed upon a heavy foundation of grim, heaving riffs, mountainous bass tones, thundering and methodically hammering drums, and absolutely hair-raising vocal intensity. Yet even in that dire and oppressive opening movement the music displays a kind of terrible magnificence, a dramatic power that’s gripping”

" 'Kuolleen maan omaksi' is, in short, dedication to chaos, an immersive abyss that will atone for all our melancholy and suffering - death without knowing that we are dead."
- Metal Hammer, Portugal

"Kuolleen Maan Omaksi is pummeling, dense, claustrophobic black metal with a slightly melodic touch and a thick atmosphere that plays well into the band’s apparent fascination....Kuolleen Maan Omaksi is a really promising slice of black metal, and I sincerely look forward to hearing more."

"Kuolleen Maan Omaksi finds the quartet tapping into MGŁA-like intricacies for one staggering composition that new single Vaisto aptly introduces one to. "

"A cataclysm of perfectly melded chaos."

"Väki have not only unleashed their debut album but this could be a game-changer as it breaks away from the Finnish Black Metal sound that we all know and love. They have opted to add something different to their countries and the worlds Black Metal underground that is utterly ferocious yet packed with atonal spite and also gorgeous melodies, concocting a majestic and spectral recording of infinitely enjoyable proportions. -9/10"
- Nattskog
nattskog.wordpress.com/2020/06/16/album-review-vaki-kuolleen-maan-omaksi/

"On closest inspection ‘Kuolleen Maan Omaksi’ is surely a finely rendered and technique-driven gust of modern black metal not limited by the current popular conventions of their countrymen."

"..back in 2017 Finland’s Väki put out a blistering EP of fierce yet cold black metal and with this week’s debut full length they up the ante in almost every aspect—expect utter chaos."

"Anyone who has something at home from Mare Cognitum, Vimur, Acephalix of Nucleus will certainly recognize his hand in it. The question remains whether you should purchase 'Kuolleen Maan Omaksi' or not? I say yes, now!"

"Väki have conjured up something truly special here. Kuolleen Maan Omaksi continually pushes the needle of what Vaki can do and has kept me mesmerized. This is black metal operating at its finest, distilling the ideas of gods forgot and driving towards bold futures. Vaki have captured the imagination here and the more time I spend picking apart this record the more I'm impressed. It's second wave black metal burnished to a point where it is guaranteed to drag you to hell. What more could a guy want? “

"A little MGLA , a little THE GREAT OLD ONES and a dash of initiative. VÄKI vary between lazy anthems, technical precision and twisted melodies."
- Metal.de
www.metal.de/reviews/vaeki-kuolleen-maan-omaksi-409296/

"You get more than enough darkness, ingenuity and perhaps most importantly, passion. Especially from the singer who puts more effort into his raging performance than most. This album is strongly recommended!"
- The Independent Voice
www.theindependentvoice.org/2020/06/09/vaki-kuolleen-maan-omaksi-succumbed-to-the-dead-soil/

"Strong debut disc! Väki is a band that belongs without a hitch on the above list. The big pluses here are the filthy, raunchy coloration of this jar of black grunt and the cutting solos and lead lines, placed so that they add even more malice to the songs."
- Zwaremetalen
zwaremetalen.com/albumrecensies/vaki-kuolleen-maan-omaksi

A whirlwind of haunting and spectral shadows, Finland's Väki ushers in a triumphant return to the cold atmospheres of the past while forging new realms in the great void. Chaos melded perfectly with a focused intent to punish, only so much that you are taken to the brink of, without fully realizing, self-annihilation. Tradition waging war against innovation for the unholy wretched soul of black metal. Submission is the only allowance.

Väki define themselves as "a musical act embodying the profound manifestations of death, impurity and chaos, dedicated to capture the darkest aspects of reality."

They continue, stating:
"We strive to create diverse black metal uniting immersive atmosphere with fierce abyss. Our music examines aspects of our existence that revolves around suffering, melancholy, and death - exploration and endorsement of these aspects enable growth and obtaining of a deeper understanding of our being. Embracing what's most profound, we speak to our audience through our art, awakening the spirits and archetypes of death."

Having released Väki's critically acclaimed debut EP, Kirous, back in 2017, we are very proud to present Väki's debut full-length, Kuolleen Maan Omaksi (translated - Succumbed to the Dead Soil), in conspiracy with Saturnal Records (Europe).
